After completing his dissertation on technology and surf tourism governance at the University of Delaware, Leon began working as the Assistant Director of the Center for Surf Research at SDSU. At this post, Leon is continuing his research on surf-break resource governance and the implications of technological advance on sustainability in surfing. Leon is also a founding member of the International Association of Surf Academics (IASA) and has recently founded a study abroad company called SeaState that combines surf travel with education and service learning. Leon also teaches sustainable surf tourism during these educational immersion programs, which occur at multiple surf tourism destinations around the globe.
