Matt McClain Director of Communications, Surfrider

Matt is a twenty year veteran of the action sports industry. After starting out in the mid 1980s with skate retail giant CCS, Matt spent much of the next decade leading sales and marketing efforts for two of the most prestigious ski areas in the country; Mammoth Mountain in California and Telluride in Colorado. In 2002, Matt made the jump into the world of environmental non-profit by taking up the reigns as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Surfrider Foundation. Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in linguistics from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. He is also a freelance writer whose work has appeared in several magazines including Thrasher,Powder, Transworld Surf, Coastal Living and GOOD Magazine.

A new project along the Central Coast of California requires firing underwater air cannons, every 15 seconds, day and night, for 17 days. These tests have the potential to kill thousands of whales, dolphins and other marine mammals.
