Savannah Shaughnessy Big Wave Surfer/Student

Surfing large waves has always been my biggest passion, and I’ve enjoyed surfing Mavericks in the winter and traveling to Puerto Escondido for the summer over the years. I graduated from UCSC with a degree in biology and I am now working towards a degree in nursing. Two of the memorable experiences I have gained from surfing were competing in Coco Nogales Mexican Pipeline Tube Ride Invitational in 2011, and participating in the first ever women’s exhibition in the men’s Big Wave World Tour at Nelscott Reef in 2010.

A Chance for Women to Surf Maverick’s Contest

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

I have been surfing Maverick’s since I was 17 years old, and if women are given the opportunity to surf in an expression session or exhibition heat, we will perform. We just need a chance.
