The Inertia

This year was quite the year to be alive for John John Florence. A win at the Eddie, a world title, a Triple Crown (at least I assume the winner of the Vans Triple Crown gets some sort of coronation ceremony and a three-pronged hunk of gold to wear on their head during parades and other such special occasions).

In light of these accomplishments, the announcement of a new sponsorship deal with Dakine to develop signature traction pads, leashes, and a travel board bag seems low on the totem pole of newsworthiness. That may be true. The only interesting bit being John used to fly the Astrodeck flag – family-run by the Fletcher clan for decades that, against all odds, has remained core to the bone since its inception.

Word is Astrodeck team riders used to pay for their traction. How rad is that? And although John’s signature pad is till available on the Astrodeck website, the champ will now rep Dakine.

“Following his most successful surf season – while using Dakine leashes and accessories – Dakine is stoked to have John John officially represent our surf accessory products,” said Dakine surf marketing director Micah Nickens. “With his continued support and insights, we’re focused on creating the best products to meet and exceed his needs.”

The Dakine John John Florence collection will drop March 2017 at specialty surf shops and online at dakine.com.
