Absolutely frightening. A father’s worst nightmare. Both ways to describe Winston Gross’ rescue of his own son out of a tree well at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, Idaho. Gross and his son, Ethan, were skiing a steep section of the resort known as Hidden Valley. Ethan hits a small jump and disappears. Luckily, as you can see in the video, Gross is following his son.

This is the second terrifying video of a tree well rescue that has surfaced this year. In January, we outlined steps to avoid them after a snowboarder was caught and rescued by his friends in one of the deep holes that forms as snow builds up around the outside of a tree, creating a deep pit or hole. But hindsight is always 20-20 and nothing replaces quick thinking. Kudos to Gross.

Shame on dad. You can see the kid is not a good skier and shouldn’t be skiing in the trees. But dear old dad convinces him to do it.

    Give the lad a hug.
