Well, maybe next time Ryder Cup Captian Davis Love III will think twice before following his son’s line down the mountain. Davis III was in Sun Valley, Idaho this week snowboarding when he wrecked and broke his collarbone.

The 53-year-old was reportedly flown to a Birmgingham, Alabama hospital where he had a plate inserted as well as eight screws to stabalize the break. “I committed the cardinal sin of following (my son) Dru down the mountain,’” Love III said through his manager Mac Barnhardt. Dru Love is on the University of Alabama golf team.

Davis Love III (-10) followed an opening 64 with a 4-under 66 on Friday at the #WyndhamChampionship. Just one off the lead after the morning wave, Love, 51, would become the third-oldest winner in PGA Tour history with a victory.

Love III has had a crazy-good year. After hip surgery last July, he recovered and lead the U.S. Ryder Cup team to a 17-11 victory in October, ending a serious Yankee drought in the event. It was the American’s first Ryder Cup win since 2008 and its largest margin of victory since 1981. Love III reportedly won’t be able to return to the course for at least 12 weeks.
