At just before midnight on Saturday night, up to seven people tried to enter the United States in a boat off Tourmaline Beach in San Diego. One person is dead.
According to The Times of San Diego, lifeguards called for assistance after they spotted a boat with seven people off La Jolla. They found a person yelling for help from the water, pulled him in, and sent him to the hospital where he was treated for hypothermia. Afterwards, he was released to Border Patrol agents, who identified him as a 32-year-old Mexican national.
A few hours later, at around 1 a.m., another man was found dead on shore. Lifeguards on the scene believe that the others on the vessel had made it to shore and disappeared. They found a boogie board on the sand. The boat they arrived on is thought to be a Mexican smuggling ship that returned to Mexico. A search including a boat and a helicopter continued through Sunday, but no others were found.
