Is anyone surfing right now? Definitely not in California, where the surf have been nearly flat for weeks and the Sierras are getting dumped on. Mammoth Mountain welcomed three feet of powder in the last day or so. And over the next week-and-a-half, it’s is expected to see another 20 feet.
Courtesy of an atmospheric river aimed at snow-starved California, a line of storms is blowing directly over the high Sierra, the Lake Tahoe area and the San Bernardino Mountains. It’s been a decent season already. By mid-December, several feet had fallen in the Sierra, with Mammoth, whose lifts and trails are all currently open, seeing its share.
The next storms look like they could make this winter one for the books, though. The back-to-back storms could lead to days of whiteout conditions and some very epic shralping, indeed.
If you’re not already up there scoring, maybe don’t look at Instagram, because you’ll feel like the only schmo not in powder up to their nipples.
