The Inertia

Waimea Bay is one of the O.G. big wave spots. It’s a place steeped in surf history; a place held in the highest esteem by anyone and everyone with even a cursory knowledge of riding waves. Although there are waves bigger and heavier, there’s just something about Waimea that can’t be denied. It’s a rite of passage for many, and on December 28th, it did its thing.

The swell that hit Oahu’s North Shore that day was the same one that would travel across the ocean and max out much of the California coastline — Maverick’s in particular — but when it hit Waimea, it was just about perfect. Anyone and everyone who has a taste for big waves was in the water, and it’s certain that day will live in infamy with all of them.
