The Inertia

I have never been to the World Cup, but I reckon it was something very similar to the atmosphere at Pipeline this afternoon. The emotion and passion were thick in the air as fellow countrymen cheered and cried for Gabriel Medina’s exceptional conclusion to 2014. Emerging the 2014 ASP World Tour Champion, Medina raised his flag and trophy high in the air, proudly representing the country of Brazil.

However, the remarkable show put on by the other 22 surfers was as equally impressive as the highly anticipated Final. Particularly, Alejo Muniz, who is responsible for booting Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning from the contest and solidifying Gabriel’s rightful place as the 2014 World Champion.

Gabriel Medina is a true champion, but giving him a run for his money was Julian Wilson, who put on an exceptional performance and emerged the 2014 Vans Triple Crown Champion and the 2014 Billabong Pipe Masters Champion. It could be said that both Gabriel Medina and Julian Wilson emerged victorious on this phenomenal day that concluded the 2014 World Tour.
