This has been a year of big changes for the ASP.

The Inertia

The Association of Surfing Professionals announced their 2014 World Tour schedule, including both the Men’s World Championship Tour and the Women’s WCT and ASP qualification tours.

“There’s a huge commitment from new management to the core principles of our sport in putting the world’s best surfers in the world’s best waves,” Kieren Perrow, Interim Commissioner, said in a press release. “The 2014 ASP Men’s WCT, ASP Women’s WCT and qualification tours are designed to produce the world’s most comprehensive and exciting surfers.”

The Men’s World Tour now includes an event at Australia’s Margaret River prior to the Bells event.

Most notably, the ASP Women’s WCT will see the addition of Fiji, Trestles, and Hossegor to their schedule, while the Taranki, New Zealand event has been axed.  “2014 will see the most talented collective of female surfers ever assembled in the ASP Top 17,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager. “The new tour schedule is befitting of their talent.”

This has been a year of big changes for the ASP. Next season will be a much more centralized effort, with the inclusion of production, athlete care, marketing, operations, media, and more all under the influence of the ASP.

One of the biggest changes the viewing public will see next year is the way competitive surfing is watched. A new media platform that includes YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and ESPN is already in place, with international linear broadcast partners being announced in the next few weeks.

The ASP will also announce their newly acquired Big Wave World Tour schedule in the new year.
