The Inertia

It began as just a regular day in Santa Cruz for Miles, a local tarp surfer. After receiving a mid-morning text that a local playground was going off, Miles packed up his stick and drove down to meet his friends. Everything seemed perfect – tarps were tubing, his friends were all there, and the weather was beautiful. Miles, though, had no idea that this regular day tarp surfing may well have been his last.

In the chilling video above, Miles takes the viewer through what turned out to be one of the worst tarp wipeouts of all time – a massive Mavericks sized tarp wrapped around his whole body, and there was no escape. “For a few seconds,” Miles remembers, “I felt my time was up. Then I felt this brisk wind across my body, and I thought for sure that the was the angels taking my soul to a higher ground.”

Eventually, though, Miles’s friends found him. Shaken and dazed but unhurt, Miles thankfully lived to tell his tale – and in doing so, warning others of the danger so inherent in tarp surfing.
