The Inertia

For some strange reason, a lot of surfers tend to have a bit of an elitist attitude when it comes to someone else’s board choice. It’s been that way for a long time, too. Think about it: despite that fact that (stand up) surfing has been shaped by many who didn’t actually stand up and body boarders pioneered more than a few of today’s scariest waves, the battle between those who ride “regular” surfboards and those who don’t has been a long one. The times, though, are a’changin’.

Soft tops are becoming more and more popular. Beater boards are a reasonably regular sight in lineups the world over. Finless crafts, foamy crafts, etcetera–if it’s fun, people are doing it. Cody Turnbull is doing it better than most, and he’s doing it on a Catch Surf Beater in Bali.
