The headline says it all. In all our searching, traveling, frothing, and mindsurfing, an escape to the Mentawai Islands appears to be the pinnacle. You have perfect waves. You have scary waves. You have tropical water and beautiful weather. Boats escort you to lineups that, even if they’re not empty, are certainly lighter than places like Southern California, the Gold Coast, the North Shore during peak season – you name it.
The point is, nearly two weeks in the Mentawais might be about as much a polar opposite of the daily grind to most surfers as any other exotic locale. We all have surfing destination bucket lists. It’s a safe bet this is near the top of 99.9% of wave sliding humans across the globe.
