The Inertia

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.” – Mike Horn

And if your job title or profession or whatever you want to call it is Professional Explorer, you’re winning life. Plain and simple. They already know that, but there is no harm in putting pen to paper and making it official. Professional Explorer isn’t the only life path, but it is far and away the best one. And I don’t even feel bad saying that. Sure, there are the more admirable or more altruistic paths such as healthcare in saving lives or ice cream man for obvious reasons, but the let’s be honest now: rest of us (nurses and doctors included) are clocking in for second place.

The first ten seconds alone make Mike Horn an explorer worth rooting for; gotta respect a man who puts his wipeouts front and center. The rest is basically humble brag after humble brag of this South African-born Swiss’s absolutely awesome life. You know that thing you wanted to do as a child but grew out of realizing that it was an impossible feat better left to superhumans? Mike Horn is doing that. And not only the thing that you wanted to do, but all the things that all the children wanted to do.

Yep, as I said before, WINNING LIFE.

Additionally, this has me thinking what the sizzle reels of yore would have looked like — with the less advanced tools, especially clothing, we would expect to see a lot of black extremities, and probably a handful of missing ones, as well as a choir of sunburnt faces. And while we’re at it, thank god Mike didn’t follow suit with practically every athletic reel our there and put this to EDM.
