A fire erupted Monday at Olatu (Pukas) surfboard factory in the Spanish Basque Country, engulfing the factory in flames. According to authorities, the cause of the blaze that was reported around 5:00 pm local time is still unknown, although presumably related to the factory’s use of flammable materials.

The factory was evacuated along with neighboring businesses. Six firefighters have reportedly been transported to various hospitals in the area and are being treated for potential poisoning from the fumes. Two others were attended to by an ambulance on site.

One factory worker is being treated for smoke inhalation.

By 10 pm local time, firefighters reportedly had the blaze under control but remained to ensure it was contained.

We will provide updates to this story as it develops.
