The Inertia

The first day of the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles went off today. Stop number 8 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP Men’s World Championship Tour, the event at Lowers is considered California’s jewel. The famed cobblestone break was offering up perfect head-high walls, a perfect canvas for surfing’s progression.

Among the notable highlights of the day were both Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina getting knocked out in round 1 – a strange occurrence for both of them. While Slater fell to Tanner Gudauskas, Medina was thrown off course by Carlos Munoz, whose 7.73 score was enough to knock the Billabong Pro Tahiti champion into round 2.

Check back tomorrow for the ASP’s live coverage of the event, and a first heat match up between Medina and Raoni Monteiro.
