John John florence pipeline

Kelly Slater and John John Florence have combined for a lot of big wins at Pipe in recent years. Hell, Slater has won seven Pipe Masters on his own since ’92, including a 2013 title where he faced off against John in the final. As for the Volcom Pipe Pro, John John has owned the biggest stop on the ‘QS alongside Kelly. He’s taken four of the last five titles with none other than Kelly Slater snagging the one John John didn’t get in the past half decade. Long story short, if Vegas offered betting odds on the winner of the 2016 Pipe Pro, you’d be dumb not to throw some coin on one of these two. And after all this, the latest news is both will be suiting up in jerseys for the year’s first ‘QS.

With the contest window starting this week and a forecast for size to trend downward through the weekend the 2016 Volcom Pipe Pro got a little more interesting when two of the biggest stars on the ‘CT confirmed. If you weren’t planning on keeping tabs through the 11-day window before you certainly have good reason to now. As for the rest of the field there will be a total of five ‘CTers in competition, including Slater and Florence. Wiggolly Dantas, Keanu Asing and Championship Tour newcomer Conner Coffin are all sticking around on the North Shore for the ‘QS 3000. But honestly, it’s a field of more than 100 surfers and with two guys dominating a single contest in recent history your eyes will be scanning for two names above all others when looking for heat match ups.
