The Inertia

Typically, we the spectators of Teahupoo only see the view from the channel. A bunch of tightly cropped action shots that make our jaws drop but don’t give us a full sense of the place. That all changed yesterday when Kelly Slater went up high above The End of the Road to show us how the wave forms, where on the reef it slabs up and a little bit about the differences in wind around the island.

Slater did the same thing in Fiji for the Cloudbreak event, but he gave away his take-off spot. Here, he said, “I’m definitely not givin’ my line-ups out in this one.” So don’t think for a second you’re going to get any insider tips. Just enjoy the view. It’s mighty fine.
