There’s perhaps no other two surfers on tour we’d rather see duke it out in classic Lowers conditions than Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater. It’s simply a match made in heaven. Given their past achievements and performances at Lowers, it’s safe to assume that everyone expected nothing short of fireworks. But there’s no way in hell anyone expected what Slater just pulled off. Rather than us attempting to explain to you what he did, we’ll just let you see the pure ridiculousness yourself.
And if you’re wondering how it all panned out, the judges deemed it an incomplete maneuver, and Mick Fanning ended up taking the win at the end of the heat. Still, you can’t deny that incredible recovery. It’s no wonder they call him Houdini. Was a 4.17 for this wave warranted? We sure as hell would’ve thrown him a few extra points for it.
