Living displaced is part of the condition of being a professional surfer. No one understands this notion more adequately than Nic von Rupp, who – in addition to traveling all year – identifies himself as Portuguese and German with a dash of French (and somehow manages a perfect English accent). In Gustavo Imigrante’s One City, we dive into the lives of European class acts, such as Tiago Pires, Vasco Ribeiro and Frederico Morais, as well as gain an in-depth understanding into Portugal’s role in the global surf industry. Additionally, the following installment draws a parallel line between the capital of Lisbon and Southern California’s surf capital by exploring their common points and differences. But in the midst of a life in constant movement, there is always a place that we will always refer to as home.
