The Inertia

The Hawaiian Islands have been getting slammed with all kinds of huge swell this winter. Maui is no exception as Jaws has seen XXL surf for most of January.

Recently, a paddle session went down at Peahi featuring Francisco Porcella, his brother Niccolo Porcella, and other chargers. Francisco positioned a GoPro on the nose of his board and another camera filmed from up above. With more than a couple surfers sharing these bombs, something brutal was bound to happen. And it did. There are more than a few cringe-worthy slams in here as well as some heart-in-your-throat barrels.

Is tow surfing a more organized and safer way to surf massive waves like these?
