The Inertia

What started as a way to get a community of hobby surfboard shapers together for some friendly competitive surfing has quickly become an annual gathering. On Saturday, Shaper Studios with support from Vissla put on their fourth annual Self Shape Festival at Seaside Reef –  and it was nothing but good vibes. Along with a first of its kind surf contest where all competitors ride boards they’ve made themselves, Duck Foot Brewing and Fall Brewing served up beer in a beer garden, Fish 101 was dishing up poke bowls, and local bands the Pesos, the Gloomies, and the Verigolds all played on the beach.

“I just love this event, because you know it’s a contest but really all the pressure is off,” said Cam Richards after his first heat. “You’re just out there having fun surfing with your friends.”

This event ain’t about winning, not in the slightest. But for what it’s worth here’s everyone who took home a golden planer trophy from the event:

Juniors – Zack Flores
Men’s Log Invitational – Tyler Warren
Women’s Log Invitational – Leah Dawson
Men’s Invitational – Cam Richards
Men’s Open – Josiah Amico
