All right, so chop hops are kinda 1990 (unless you’re on a river wave), but check out this crazy little maneuver from Austin Kalama–son of iconic waterman, Dave–in Maui from a film session earlier in the summer. He doesn’t use the lip but he still catches some pretty solid air on the foil: enough to nearly pull a 360 (he gets three-quarters of the way around).

While some people get rather defensive about the foil thing (not to mention holding a paddle while surfing in general), foils take an insane amount of balance to ride. And Kalama has these little airs dialed on gutless waves. Always cool seeing people do rad s### on weird equipment.
