The Inertia

From name changes to big name title sponsors to marketing athletes’ jerseys (complete with name and number), it’s no secret the World Surf League is on a mission to professionalize surfing. In some circles professionalism might be synonymous with seriousness. In order to be taken seriously, you need to behave seriously, you might say.

Then again, any sports fan worth his salt that tunes in to ESPN on the reg will tell you the ‘This is Sportscenter’ commercials are pretty hilarious. And ESPN is big business. So it all makes sense the WSL would try its hand at comedy in a similar way. The result, the Beach Breaks bits above and below. Some are (actually) pretty good!
