The Inertia

I shot my first surf photos on a trip to the north shore of Kauai in 2oo8. I was hooked immediately. When I got back to California, I started shooting surfing as much as possible and knew I was in trouble one head-high, offshore morning when I decided to grab my camera instead of my board. During flat spells or blown out afternoons I’d miss shooting and obsessively check the weather and swell forecasts. Then in late 2009, the Venice skatepark opened in my backyard and the combination of light, location, and incredibly creative skating blew me away. I started shooting as much skating as I could, especially when the ocean went flat. Now I try to shoot both as much as possible, occasionally reminding myself to put the camera down, paddle out, and catch a few.
