The Inertia

Skiing (or snowboarding in my case) is fun. Really fun. In fact, throughout the course of my entire life — ever since my father carried me down the mountain when I was still months old — it has remained one of the most fun things I have the joy of doing from time to time.

Over the years of doing said fun thing, it has become somewhat natural for me, and I’m able to throw myself around the hill with relative ease. And when I really get going, particularly when I’m hanging with family and friends on groomers or chutes where I’m especially comfortable, my imagination takes over.

Perhaps I am a quintessential byproduct of a video game youth, but even in the great outdoors there are inspired illusions of 1080 Snowboarding or Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater when I’m cruising. Whatever the case, it always makes for an entertaining run, whether the run would be otherwise challenging or not.

Anyway, Nikolai Schirmer’s portrayal of his own run on Norway’s Isskard Glaice reminded me of those days in all the good ways.
