The Inertia

“Sure it is a stupid idea to take a bicycle on the Via Ferrata… obviously it doesn’t belong here. But doing it felt intense; there is no place when you feel alive then when you face the absolute opposite of it.” – Harald Philipp

In agreement with Harald Philipp — this is a stupid idea. He said it, not us. Let us put that into perspective for you, a visual one of course.

Via-4

Yep, he is somewhere there in that red circle riding along the Via Ferrata in the Brenta Dolomites of Italy. Now while he admittedly chose the stretches he put tread to, he still rode over 90% of the downhill parts, a feat that is both admirable and unconscionable.

As he explained in the Vimeo description: “It was one of the best rides I ever had, especially the run down into the valley when the Via Ferrata was done and the filming was finished. But I honestly don’t want to do this ride again. It’s stupidly dangerous, feels triple as exposed as it looks and there is a lot more uphill-climbing and ladders involved than the video shows. You think about doing this tour as well? I really recommend to walk these fantastic route without a bicycle. And only if you then see a trail too…”

Just look at it.

Via-2

Nope. Not for us. But that being said, we’re glad Harald did it. And moreover, we’re glad that he survived it.
