The Inertia

“I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale… handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail. Only last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick — I’m so mean I make medicine sick.” – Muhammad Ali

As if Amy Purdy’s story wasn’t already inspiring enough, they had to go on and put what is arguably Muhammad Ali’s most famous and inspiring proclamation over her athletic endeavors. If you don’t know her story, then we should quickly change that right now. At 19, Amy contracted a form of bacterial meningitis that among many things led to septic shock. As a result, she had both legs amputated below the knee, additionally losing both kidneys and her spleen. But that didn’t phase her. Instead of wallowing away in sorrow, she started snowboarding seven months after receiving leg prosthetics. Today, she inspires others through TED talks and was recently named (in 2014) to ESPNW’s Impact 25. And she is also an Olympic bronze medalist now, placing third at the Paralympic Games in Sochi a little less than year ago.

Yep, if this isn’t an inspiring edit, I’m not sure I know what is.
