Kamp Kalama, Namotu Island Resort , Fiji. (Monday November 2, 2015) There was a mix of winds today with very light SE Trades early before easing off mid morning and then they swung to the South West and kicked back up late morning. The swell was in the 3'- 5'+ range with surf sessions at Namotu Lefts and Swimming Pools. Pools was the pick of the spots early with virtually all the Kampers out in the line up. Erik Logan doesn’t really know why he’s relevant in the SUP surf world. At least that’s what he says. But there’s no denying the man has made his imprint in show business. As President of the Oprah Winfrey Network and former head of XM Radio Logan looks at himself as more of the everyday Average Joe when it comes to his life and passion in the water.

When Logan took up surfing in his early 40’s, just like the rest of us, he was hooked. He soon learned that being one of Hollywood’s big movers and shakers would have its perks in the surf community when Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton made their way to a OWN Network event. Erik had a fanboy moment with Laird that sooner or later led to Hamilton becoming more or less his personal SUP surfing advisor/coach/mentor.

With all that said, the man’s work and career are built on the idea of recognizing a good story when he sees one. That alone makes him a voice in the conversation of where surfing/SUP surfing can and should grow. For one, he sees WSL caliber talent competing on stand ups in the future. So what else does this media executive turned saltwater obsessed see for the future of our sport(s), where does it all fit in the media world, and plenty of other things inquiring minds want to know?…well, that’s why you listen.
