Hurricane Epsilon created one of the biggest swells anyone has ever seen at Nazaré. It was mind-bendingly big. Days like that attract the biggest of big wave surfers, and even in a wide-open lineup like the one out back at Nazaré, it can get a little crowded. JetSkis buzz to and fro, whipping surfers into waves that no one in their right mind should want to surf. Wipeouts are par for the course in surfing, but the consequences are far worse on a day like the one in late October. Such was the case when Nic Von Rupp and João Guedes got some communication lines crossed up. Máquina Voadora caught the accident on camera.
“Shit happens,” Von Rupp wrote. “It’s the way you deal with it that matters! Dropping down this wave feeling @joaoguedessurfs board on my heels was one of the scariest moments out at Nazaré. No bad vibes here, Joao and myself are friends and glad we both are okay after this.”
