My name is Jernej Rakušček. I was born in Slovenia, in 1978. I have been living around the world's oceans for the past eleven years. I have been involved sports all my life - a successful alpine skiing career, martial arts (black belt), and I finished a Bachelor's degree with Honors in endurance/stamina training. My philosophy is that an athlete should know the connection of body/mind/spirit and be able to take up any sport at any given moment with ease. When I was introduced to surfing, I was twenty. I began to realize that it is an activity which is fundamentally suited for personal development, since it happens in WATER (a medium for intelligent life force) and is related to WAVES (physical manifestation of energy in the universe). My experiment was this: could I introduce ways of acting from land, of which I know work towards developing human potential, and use them to teach myself surfing? Is it possible to find relations to mistakes in surfing to "faults" in personal development on land? The answer is YES, and I proved that by riding 24+ faces at Waimea bay in my third session there, on my first visit to Hawaii, after 5 years of surfing. I kept developing that philosophy and had coached approximately a thousand people to view surfing that way. The results are hard to describe in words. At the moment, I am involved in redesigning board shapes and wave approach in order to prove that it is possible to catch a 30 foot wave on a 6'0" by paddling into it. My goal, though, is to share the ancient wisdom of surfing to as many surfers as possible, so that we all live to see line-ups around the world, where anonymous surfers cheer each other into a wave.
