Kevin Jara was raised in Hawaii and San Diego and began surfing at the age of 10. It was in his junior year of high school when he first picked up a camera and stepped into the darkroom. Looking through the negatives of the first roll of film he developed by hand was the moment he knew what he wanted to do with my life. Kevin later moved to Long Beach to study photography in college. While in school, he honed his fine art eye and became involved in many different genres of the medium, from concert to photojournalism, and studio portraiture and loved every minute of it. But at the end of the day he was still drawn to his first love of surf photography. Since graduation, he has dedicated nearly every day to the pursuit of that dream. He is extremely fortunate to have made connections with people he grew up idolizing. He hopes to continue to grow and develop his style and voice in the years to come and cannot wait to see where photography takes him. It’s been a blast so far and he only sees it getting better.
