Experience

Drawn to paper and pen since her formative years, Rebecca always knew she would become a writer. Her childhood dreams centered around writing novels and living near the beach. It wasn’t until after finishing a degree in marine biology that her eyes were opened to surf and outdoor journalism.

Fresh out of college, Rebecca landed an interview with SUP magazine and spent nine months learning the tricks of the trade with the best in the industry. After that, Rebecca became a full-time freelance writer and spent the next eight years contributing to various surf, outdoor, travel, and gear magazines. When she wasn’t at her computer, Rebecca practiced what she preached, spending the bulk of her free time in the water or on the trails near her home in Southern California.

In 2021, Rebecca made her dream move to Oahu, Hawaii where she landed a contributing editor position with Freesurf magazine as well as a contributing editor position with The Inertia. In 2023, Rebecca was brought onto a full-time position as a gear editor for The Inertia.

As one of the gear editors, Rebecca regularly tests and reviews the latest and greatest in the world of outdoor gear. She works with The Inertia’s team of editors and freelancers to create buyer’s guides, single items reviews, gift guides, and more. When she’s not reviewing gear, Rebecca continues to work on writing novels, with the goal of someday landing a book on the best seller list.

A Word From Rebecca Parsons

As a gear editor for The Inertia, I get to combine my passions for surfing, the outdoors, and writing into one. As a child, I dreamed of someday seeing my name in print and am continuously grateful to have a job that I genuinely love.

My career kicked off with an unpaid internship at a stand-up paddle magazine and evolved into freelance gigs, before finally landing an editorial position. The Inertia is a surf and outdoor magazine comprised of good people, writing about their greatest passions in life – I am honored to be a member of the team. When I’m not writing, you can find me surfing, running, hiking, stand-up paddling, or sleeping under the stars.
