Tom Rippeth is the Professor of Physical Oceanography at Bangor University. He is an expert in measuring ocean turbulence and uses these measurements to improve understanding of the processes which drive climatically important fluxes of heat, freshwater, nutrients and carbon within the oceanic component of the Earth System. He also has interests in marine renewable energy and blue carbon. He has published over 60 peer reviewed scientific papers and worked in environments as diverse as the Arctic Ocean, Swedish fjords and the Menai Strait on the edge of Snowdonia. He has made various media appearances including appearing on Coast - explaining why there are two tides a day.
