I’m a 21-year-old journalism student and self-taught photographer living in New York City. Born and raised in Huntington Beach, CA, and learning quickly that a professional surf career was not likely in my cards, I turned to photography. What started as simply a fun way of documenting my friends soon became a passion for capturing the aesthetics of surfing and the culture that inherently goes along with it. Whether or not I can make a living doing what I love is beyond my current knowledge, but it’s an exciting notion regardless and it is a factor which keeps me motivated. Opportunity is a rare commodity, but living in New York, even for such a short time as I have, has proven to be a worthwhile sacrifice to be away from the sunny beaches of home. I’ve been shooting for about 3 years now and, although my growing interest in photography has consistently kept me on the brink of poverty, it has ultimately fed a desire to keep progressing to be on par with the best.
