The Inertia

Crack open that wallet. Got 49 big ones? You could become the newest owner of Nautilus Resort on the island of Kosrae in Micronesia.

This isn’t a gimmick. Two months ago, we reported on an incredible opportunity: one couple is raffling off their tropical resort instead of selling it to the highest bidder. At forty nine dollars per ticket, its conceivable someone could walk away owning and operating a fully functioning tropical resort in paradise for a small price, putting this dream in reach of the everyman.

At the time, though, there was a small caveat: if under 50,000 tickets were sold, the current owners would split the earnings from the contest with the winner – a prize that could reach upwards of $1.2 mil per party.

But according to representatives from WIN the Island Estates – the company managing the raffle – after selling 34,000 raffle tickets in over 120 countries, Doug and Sally Beitz decided that with all of the hype surrounding the giveaway they would remove the 50,000 minimum. Bottom line: the resort will be awarded, no matter what, on July 26th. In other words, the only thing standing between you and living out the rest of your life in paradise may be the price of a single ticket and some luck.
