The X Games League is adding a new team to the fold for this upcoming winter season, and it’s located in the United States’ tenth-largest media market: the San Francisco Bay Area. The addition of XC Golden State was announced this week as a XGL winter-only team, representing the connection between the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe.
“Northern California has helped shape action sports for generations,” said Jeremy Bloom, CEO of X Games. “From the mountains of Lake Tahoe to the innovation and creativity of the Bay Area, few regions have had a greater influence on the athletes, brands, and culture that define our industry today.”
XC Golden State marks the sixth franchise sale by X Games, with the new Northern California squad and XC Park City competing exclusively in the winter season. XC Tokyo will be a summer-only club, according to the Sports Business Journal, while L.A., N.Y., Park City and São Paulo will reportedly compete in both summer and winter. The Golden State team was purchased by a group of investors at an undisclosed price, led by Bay Area entrepreneur, Jonathan Turner.
“We’re excited to partner with X Games; an iconic brand with unlimited global potential,” said Turner. “We aim to showcase the talent of the exceptional X Games athletes and bring the excitement and passion for action sports to fans around the world. The Bay Area and Lake Tahoe have been central to the development of action sports and it’s essential that the communities of Northern California have their own team to support. We represent those pushing the boundaries and creating sports history.”
The athletes who will be representing the new Bay Area franchise are yet to be decided. X Games League will be holding its winter draft on September 16, 2026 in Los Angeles.
