Every June, we celebrate World Ocean Day as a reminder of how vital our oceans are and how urgent it is to protect them. This year, the ocean advocates at Costa Sunglasses are making waves by turning awareness into action. From purpose-driven products to hands-on conservation, Costa is proving that protecting our planet isn’t a one-day event — it’s a daily commitment. Here’s how the brand is leading the charge to safeguard the waters that connect us all.
2025 World Ocean Day 🌎

🌊 Celebrating Our Oceans Every Day
One day of ocean conservation only goes so far. To create lasting impact, we have to live each day with a conservation mindset. “The ocean covers approximately 70 percent of Earth’s surface and it’s time we acknowledge that there’s so much more we can do to protect it,” says Robbie Labelle, Global Vice President of Marketing at Costa “We don’t just explore; we leave places better than we found them.”
Awareness ➡️ Purpose-Driven Products
Costa goes beyond awareness with the creation and evolution of the Untangled™ Collection. Made in partnership with Bureo® — a company that partners with local fishing communities around the world to give new life to discarded fishing nets in the form of a virgin-plastic alternative called NetPlus®. This line of sunglasses are crafted with 97 percent recycled materials.

Since the partnership between Bureo® and Costa launched in 2018, 3.6 metric tons of discarded fishing nets have been repurposed for Costa’s Untangled™ Collection of eyewear and apparel. “Fishing nets are some of the most harmful forms of plastic pollution found in our oceans,” saysRobbie Labelle, Global Vice President of Marketing at Costa. “Bureo® helps repurpose these end of life nets into high-performance products that last. The organization’s commitment to conservation mirrors Costa’s 42-year history of protecting the waters we love.”
