A newly announced project aims to add a bevy of wave pools to China. As wave pool publication Blooloop reports, wave pool manufacturer American Wave Machines (AWM) has partnered with China Tourism Group (CTG) to form a joint venture called Eastern Swell Dynamics.
AWM is already well-known to surfers as the developer of the PerfectSwell wave pool technology. The proprietary system uses pneumatic power to create waves and is already in use in a number of projects around the world, including Waco Surf in the United States, Shizunami Surf Stadium in Japan, and Boa Vista Village in Brazil. Notably, the company has already made inroads to the Chinese Market with the Riyue Bay Surf Resort, located in Wanning, on Hainan Island’s southeast coast and also a partnership with CTG.
“The formation of Eastern Swell Dynamics reflects the next phase of PerfectSwell growth,” said AWM founder Bruce McFarland. “AWM brings the surf technology, enthusiasm for the sport and surf park experience. CTG brings extraordinary regional capability, destination development experience and institutional reach. Together, we believe the joint venture is positioned to support a new generation of surf park projects.”
Wei Li CTG Investments CFO Wei Li added that, “Riyue Bay Surf Resort has already demonstrated the appeal of high-performance PerfectSwell surf within a destination experience developed by CTG. Through Eastern Swell Dynamics, we look forward to building on that success and supporting the development of new PerfectSwell surf destinations across China.”
