Dylan Graves is best known for his series Weird Waves, in which he travels around the far reaches of the globe looking for the world’s strangest surf breaks. It appears his explorations aren’t limited to the series though, as a new video on his YouTube channel took him to Newcastle Harbor to explore a reclusive Australian wave.
“When the charts lit up for a rare swell to hit Newcastle Harbor, I knew I had to drop everything I was doing and go,” explained Graves in the caption. “In this episode, I link up with Craig Anderson and a stacked crew of local legends to score one of the most elusive waves on Australia’s East Coast. The wave only breaks a few times a decade — when the swell direction, tide, and wind all align — and this was one of those magic days! At a spot I’ve always wanted to go! From heavy dredging barrels off the breakwall, to sketchy entries, weird backwashes, and total chaos in the lineup, this session had everything I love about weird waves.”
Graves promises the new novelty wave content will release monthly on his YouTube channel. It’ll be exciting to see what he turns up outside of the Weird Waves brand.
