The Inertia

Sally Fitzgibbons won the Roxy Pro France today, narrowly defeating Tyler Wright in pumping four-foot surf.

This is Fitzgibbons’ first win on the 2013 Women’s World Championship Tour this season, and she won in fine form. She was the first surfer to score a perfect 10, and holds three of the highest wave scores of the event.

Fitzgibbons easily advanced throughout the contest, comboing her opponents several times. When she reached the final, however, Wright tried her best to shut door on a win. In the opening minutes of the heat, she found a small righthander that earned her a perfect 10.

“It was a tricky situation. I had priority and a sneaky right came in and I was looking for the lefts,” Fitzgibbons said. “She went for it and really stepped it up; I saw her do that little air out the back and I thought ‘game on.’ I got to do something big now!”

Carissa Moore finished equal third, holding her position as the current leader in the world rankings.
