Reeling in any fish can be a task, let alone one that’s grown to about a meter in length. But take away the reel and ask a man to grab that fish with his bare hands and you’ve got an entirely different ballgame. Now do all this while surfing. Actually, not just while surfing, but while on a party wave with one of your best friends with the fish in question dropping in on you both. Those are the cliff notes of how Heath Snedden and his friend Jeremy got their hands on a sizable barramundi.
“One of the boys hit the barra with his surfboard and (he) just jumped on it, really,” Snedden told 9 News Australia. “It was still a little bit alive, a bit stung.”
The two friends brought the fish in on a wave moments later intending to cook it, but they eventually decided against that given how large the animal was. They released the fish back into the water but not without getting video evidence of their catch and a great story to share.
