Vans Triple Crown of SurfingIt’s that time of year again: the Hawaii leg of tour has just lit its pilot light, and it’s getting ready to turn up the heat. Every year, the best surfers in the world surf (hopefully) the best waves on the planet in an effort to entertain us. Are you not entertained? This year will be a house-wrecker of a party: stakes are high for two-time champion Mick Fanning, while surfing’s Superman is trailing just behind him. For Slater to become Sla12er (or whatever name they’ll give him), he needs to win, and his Australian rival can’t place higher than fifth.

The Hawaii leg of the tour is, generally, the place where the most entertaining goes down. Steeped in surfing history, Hawaii is as almost as necessary to the tour as a surfboard is to the surfers.  And the schedule for this necessity has been announced. Almost a million dollars will be won. World Titles will be claimed. Excitement is in the air, to be sure.
