The Inertia

Faaahhhuuuck. Here we are getting out all our equipment for the fly-fishing season ahead, shoring up on whatever skills we might be need to be privvy to while shaking off the inactivity, when we come across this video.

The removals themselves are expected, and thereby not that bad. The insertions are what really get you — they are slow and done with such deliberate force/direction that they are more Saw than YouTube tutorial.

Now, before we get into the nitty gritty gore of it, let’s give credit where credit is due: the tutor successfully demonstrates the three widely-approved or -accepted removal techniques in the push through and cut, reverse plier pull, and line pull, even capturing the shortcomings of each.

The most fascinating part of this is that less than a year later he was back for more, this time putting FIVE hooks in himself, in places like his hand, arm, and leg…

…he is what we call a masochist.
