Lifeguards don’t get Labor Day off. In fact, quite the opposite – the holiday can be one of the busiest days of the year. As the summer’s last hurrah, Labor Day typically sees Southern California natives flocking to the beach in record high numbers. And this past holiday weekend was no different.
With blue skies and abnormally warm weather, San Diego residents packed the beaches over the three-day weekend. And because of the sizable south swell in the water, the lifeguards had their hands full. Fox 5 San Diego reports that lifeguards in the area made a staggering total of 655 water rescues over the weekend. And 122 of those were made at the popular A-frame surf spot Wind and Sea in La Jolla.
Luckily for the lifeguards, the summer season is basically over, making their jobs a lot less stressful. And it’s a good thing because it looks like another round of waves is headed our way!
