The Seven Mile Miracle is a proving ground precisely because of how dangerous the surf can be. Any up and comer worth his salt is deemed incomplete without the compulsory pilgrimage to Oahu to see how they fare at Pipe, Sunset, or Haleiwa.

The North Shore is a gladiator arena of sorts, which sometimes spells calamity for even the most experienced surfer. Think Evan Geiselman, Owen Wright, or Kalani Chapman.

And behind the scenes, there are those whose job it is to risk their lives in the worst of the worst case scenarios. Lifeguards on the North Shore have a long history as being some of the most well-rounded and respected waterman, replete with names like Eddie Aikau, and plenty of others – lesser-known but equally respected.

This year RVCA did an incredible thing by supporting the North Shore Lifeguard Association, and highlighting a few of the guys putting their lives on the line to save others each and every day.
