He’s probably the most explosive surfer on tour right now. At just 20-years-young, Filipe Toledo has already made a huge impact on the world of competitive surfing with go-for-broke airs, a fierce competitive drive and an unbridled passion. He currently sits in the top 5 of the WSL rankings and if he keeps it up, he’s likely to stay right in that range or better. And with his showing so far at Lowers – a buzzer-beater win over local Boy Ian Crane in Round 2 – he’s on the right track.
But even if Filipe had an ounce of inhibition while wearing a jersey (he doesn’t), imagine what he can do while free surfing. Enter the good folks at Surfing Magazine who’ve honored the young Brazilian with a new full-length film aptly titled “Spinning at the Speed of Now.”
“I never envisioned working on a movie with SURFING,” Filipe said. “This is my first big film. I’ve had some clips in shorter films and put out my own web edits, but I’ve never been a part of anything full-length like this. It’s been a really fun experience, and we’ve scored on all of our trips.”
“Spinning at the Speed of Now” will premiere next Wednesday, September 16th at the San Clemente pier at 7:30 pm.
