The secret is out. Mainland Mexico’s reeling right-handers are no longer coveted hideaways for those in the know. Since Rip Curl’s 2006 event, “Somewhere in Mexico,” the world’s best were treated to Salina Cruz’s famed point break as the world watched and began booking their tickets. And while the crowd may be heavier than what it used to be, the wave is still absolutely insane.
Hawaii’s Moniz brothers and San Clemente’s Griffin Colapinto recently headed down South for a little Mexican R&R. And by that we mean they surfed their goddamn brains out in some of the most perfect point breaks in the world. With the level of progression these guys are at, Salina Cruz was blown up while the gang was in town. We’re talkin’ a hefty helping of leg-trembling-long tubes and above-the-lip destruction. How’s that Kerrupt Flip 540 attempt at the 1:31 mark? Definitely be on the lookout for these three.
