While North America was sleeping last night, cuddled up in bed and dreaming about perfect tubes, the world’s best took to the water for Round 1 of the Quik Pro France. Conditions were pretty ideal for Hossegor’s La Grav – slight off-shore winds and punchy barrels. The big names came out swinging for Round 1, like the defending champion of the event, John John Florence. In one of the highest scores of the day, JJF pulled into a reeling right-hander, getting spit out just before it pinched and then destroying the lip with a critical layback man hack. If this is any indication of how John will be surfing the rest of the event, then we could be in for a repeat. With the win over Alejo Muniz and Jeremy Flores, John’s moving on to Round 3.
